Uma Film Review

Image
Uma is inspired by the real story of Evan Leversage, the boy who moved Christmas early. Uma is a little girl who stays with her father in Switzerland who is a divorcee. She suffers from a terminal illness and has very few months to survive. She always wished to see Durga Puja held in Kolkata which she grew up listening to from his father. Her Father (Jisshu Sengupta) gets devasted and to fulfill her wish he re-creates Durga Puja early with the help of a fallen director (Anjan Dutt).   The film explores the relation of a father and a daughter who with the help of so many people successfully fulfills her dream. It shows the culture of Kolkata and the people who went out of their way to help the little child. The performances were brilliant and another beautiful film from director Srijit Mukherji.

Upama (Tanuja), an old lady in her 70 stays alone in her home who is abandoned by her only son Soumya (Jisshu Sengupta).  A caretaker takes care of her, but life was not easy for her. She longs for her only son who didn’t pay any visit to her for more than six months. But one day her life saw a light of hope when she met Bitlu, a small kid from an orphanage who pays a visit to her home through an orphanage Anandaghar run by Parambrata Chatterjee. Bitlu suffers from HIV positive and always falls sick. He creates a special bond with Upama and fills her voidness. This film is a story that is so frequent in today’s world where children leave their parents at a point where they need the utmost care. A must watch for today’s generation who are so busy in their lives. Excellent performances by the actors and the emotion involved between the characters were shown flawlessly by Director/Actor Parambrata Chatterjee. Shonar Pahar is a reality check for those who abandon their parents at a pea...
