BLACKPINK: Light Up The Sky Review

Netflix has dropped a docuseries on one of the most popular K-Pop group BlackPink. The Series is an interesting insight into how a band from Korea became a sensational band with a unique combination of four powerful and equally talented girls.

It shows the journey of how K-Pop artists are trained from a very young age to compete in the cut-throat music industry. The series starts with the introduction of each band member. Jennie the super shy from Seoul, Lisa, the heart of the band, the rapper, and the lead dancer from Thailand, Jisso, the quiet one from Sanbon in Gunpon city and the lead singer, the very talented and passionate singer Rose from New Zealand. They all shared how they were discovered by YG Entertainment. The show also described how talents are recruited by the company. Few get the chance instantly if they have the potential and few wait for decades.

The series is a one-on-one interview-based show where you can watch each band member describing their journey showing their different persona from the World Icons they are. The Director, Carolina Suh tries to bring the best by giving them a chance to share their weak and strong moments. They live in a posh dorm like a girl's hostel where they become more than a family. Going through all the rigorous training for years away from family, testing their patience, sharing each other's moments are some worth watching scenes. They laugh, they cry like every other teenager.

While talking about why Blackpink works so perfectly according to the producer and 1TYM member Teddy park says "We are just Korean People making music and when Korean people make music, what it would be called...K-Pop", "Every group has their own different cultural background that makes them who they are", "They are huge and they are so successful". He says they are all unique and are a deadly combination because of that uniqueness. But the constant competition lurks in their mind because of the constant recruitment of talents who can replace them anytime if they are not relevant enough anymore. With the constant popularity of K-Pop with bands like BTS, SuperM, BIGBANG, and many. The pressure is high but it has almost become a norm in the music industry to deal with it.

With hits like " Whistle", " Boombayah" "DDU-DU DDU-DU", the performance is Coachella and collaboration with star-studded musicians like Dua Lipa, Lady Gaga, Salena Gomez, they have made a statement of their arrival and has become a cultural phenomenon. They have a crazy fan following of billions. They are definitely here to stay. Their killer dance moves and the perfect combination is a delight to watch on the stage. The documentary also highlights some of their shows in the world-tour continuously for a month. They work hard, day, and night to give their best. Definitely, K-Pop is a rage because of such brilliant talents and is a cultural phenomenon.

Watch the docuseries to explore the other side of the band and you are going to love it.
