Kappela Movie Review

Drama/ Thriller
Director: Musthafa
Cast: Anna Ben, Roshan Mathew, Sreenath Bhasi
Ratings: 4/5

Kappela is an unusual story where the beautiful landscape of the village areas of Wayanad, Malappuram, and Kannur along with a romantic story captivates the audience from the start. The movie starts with a breathtaking view of a small village where life is simple, easy-going. Any new development in the village is a matter of celebration and amusement.

Jessy (Anna Ben) is the main protagonist of the film who is an innocent village girl and dreams to see the beach in the city someday and own a smartphone. Her father who is a farmer takes control of the women in the family with strict rules. Jessy’s mother is one of the sole earners of the family. She stitches the clothes of the village women folks and earn money to run the family.

In order to take the measurement of one of Jessy’s mother client, she dials a wrong number. The plot revolves around the missed call. The mobile phone is one of the integral parts of the film. She starts to get calls from the same number which happens to be the number of the  Vishnu (Roshan Mathew), the autorickshaw driver who is a simple and a kind hearted man. She falls in love with Vishnu whom she has never seen. Meanwhile the store owner of the village is in love with her and wants to marry her. The story takes an interesting part when she plans to visit Vishnu and meets Roy (Sreenath Bhasi), a brash and unemployed young man.

Brilliant performance by all the actors. Outstanding performance by Anna Ben who plays the naive village girl with dreams. Another stellar performance by Roshan Mathew post “Choked”. Sreenath Bhasi looks intriguing and convincing.

Musthafa (Director) successfully introduces a new way of presenting thriller. The characters are woven in such a charming way that it is hard to believe that it might have flaws. Interestingly the whole film will make you feel so good about the charming couple who are so much in love until the plot unfolds dramatically. He has managed to create something brilliant with a subtle story telling technique. It has a bigger message than what meets the eye. The cinematography is breathtakingly beautiful and calm and all credit goes to Jimshi Khalid.
